Aim: This session aims to provide a broad understanding of the term dementia.  It allows participants to improve thier knowledge and skills when dealing with persons with dementia through reflection and discussion.

Main Topics which will be discussed include:

  • What is Dementia?
  • Current population of those living with dementia and predictions for the future.
  • Risk Factors for developing dementia.
  • Dementia and the brain.
  • Diagnosis of dementia and treatments.
  • Communication.
  • The carer’s role.

On successful completion of the course, participants will:

  • Gain an insight into caring for an older person with Psychological and Behavioural Symptoms.

Accreditation / CPD: A certificate of attendance shall be provided.
