2024 Volunteer Vacancies

GENERAL GUIDELINES

There are three prerequisites that must be adhered to when considering becoming a volunteer in Milford Care Centre:

  • If you have had a recent bereavement we ask that you wait for 12 months before applying to become a volunteer.
  • A minimum commitment of 12 months is required for all positions.
  • All volunteers are expected to complete mandatory and refresher training as required.

Drinks Round

There are no vacancies at this time.

Flower & Plant Care Volunteer

Day: Flexible in agreement with Horticulturalist.
Time: Afternoon preferred for hospice patients.
Duties: Refresh & care for hospice patients flowers and plants in their rooms and maintain flowers & plants in public area of the hospice.

Day Care for Older Adult

Gardening Class

Day: Tuesday and Thursday
Time: 1:20 pm to 3 pm , rotating seasonally to 12:20 pm to 2:00 pm
Duties: Assisting horticulturalist in gardening class, bringing the clients to and from Day Care Lounge.

All in the Cooking – Fun Class

Day & Time:
Monday or Thursday: 10 a.m. to 12:30 pm

Duties: Home Economics reminiscing, exploring the many aspects of cooking, from sharing ideas and tips from the past, to looking at how to make simple nutritious meals when cooking for one, and perhaps enjoying a cup of tea later when the scones are made.

Knitting Class

Day & Time:
Monday: 10am to 11:30pm – (flexible)

Facilitating knitting / crochet group for beginners and established knitters in a relaxed environment.

Garden Volunteers Needed

We are building a garden volunteer team to help care for the gardens.  If you have a couple of hours to spare, love gardening or would like to learn more about gardening, then why not consider joining us.  You don’t need any experience as you will be supported in your work by our Horticulturalist .

Hours: Monday / Thursday/ Friday  9 am to 1 pm.

Setting Up Walking Club

Day: Flexible in agreement with Nursing Team and Activities Co-ordinator, potentially Tuesday and/or Friday initially.
Time: Afternoons: ideally between 2 – 4 pm.
Duties: With guidance from the Nursing Home Staff, wheel or escort residents for a walk around the grounds of Milford Care Centre, or bring to the courtyard garden to enjoy the summer days and some outdoor companionship.

Companionship

Companionship required for a resident in the afternoons for short visits and chats.

Mass -Relief Sacristan/ Eucharistic Minister

Mass in Milford chapel 6 days per week @ 11:30am

Relief Sacristan

Day & Time: 11am – 12:15pm, days vary.

Relief Eucharistic Minister   

Day & Time: 11:20 am– 12:20pm, days vary.

Mass Assistant

Day & Time: Thursday. 11am – 12:15pm.

Duties: Wheel & escort the residents to/from mass to dining room.

Card Games and Chess Players

Day and Time: Afternoons Tuesday 2 – 4 pm (flexible)
Duties: Supporting the residents with card games, in particular 45.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament

Day and Time: Friday 3-4pm (flexible)
Duties: Facilitation of the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in Milford Chapel as guided by Pastoral Care Department.

Container Gardening in Nursing Home Courtyard Garden

Day and Time: Monday, Tuesday, Friday.  Time to be confirmed.
Duties:
Assist resident garden enthusiasts with container gardening.
